After leaving school Andrew spent approximately 4 years with Mullards Semiconductors based
in Southampton in what might be considered to be similar to 'an apprenticeship'. During this
time he developed his Electronic Engineering skills and enjoyed a meteoric rise through the
salary scales to become the youngest member of the Mullards monthly staff, which wasn't bad
given there were some 3,000 employees on the site.
Mullards was followed by a very satisfying career as a Senior Customer Engineer with Hewlett Packard
where he had personal responsibility for what was then HP UK's single largest desktop computer contract.
Additional responsibilities included providing support for the HP1000 range of real-time computer
systems. His career then migrated to become a Senior Technical Consultant with responsibility for
HP's Factory Automation product range, working within the Professional Services Organisation.
When HP withdrew from offering software products on the corporate price list Andrew was seconded
to the internal Business Administration team, where he developed two major software applications
for managing the reporting and administration of the Professional Service Organisations business.
These applications were rolled out across HP Europe, with Andrew training all of the European business
administrators for a week in HP Amsterdam. In recognition of these achievements Andrew was awarded
share options by the HP UK directorate.
On completion of the secondment in the early 1990's Andrew transferred to a new career as a
software engineer within HP's Integrated Service Division. Therein he took responsibility for
ISO9000 activities for the division within the European operation.
After leaving HP Andrew formed his own company to provide services as a freelance software consultant,
which he continues to do today.
